Ethnomusicology in Ghana

Study and experience West African culture in its traditional setting. Onsite visits to celebrations, ceremonies, and rituals are combined with instruction by traditional musicians, artists and guest lectures by cultural bearers. Traditions are studied from a perspective that emphasizes participant-observation.

  • Housing in 2-person traditional dwellings on beachfront situated in a fishing village in the Volta Region
  • African arts, healing, music, dance, and drumming
  • First hand experience doing field research
  • Active participation in the vibrant culture of the Ewe-speaking peoples of the Volta Region.
