Health Insurance

Exchange students must either bring comparable health insurance coverage with them, or purchase a UNT approved health insurance policy. If you plan to bring your own insurance, be sure to bring a detailed description of the policy so that you will receive a waiver from the UNT health insurance requirement. Students without insurance (or students without a detailed description of their home-country policy) are required to buy the UNT insurance for approximately $450 per semester. ISEP students obtain their insurance form ISEP and simply need to show receipt of payment for this coverage upon arrival.

The coverage level of UNT insurance is the absolute minimum anyone should have! It provides for a total of a $50,000 pay-out per injury, illness, etc. To receive a waiver from the UNT requirement, you must demonstrate that your policy is comparable and has a pay-out of at least $50,000.

Most of your medical needs will be taken care of at the UNT Student Health Center. Students can be examined by a doctor for no charge, although some procedures (X-rays, some tests, drug prescriptions and subsequent visits) do carry a charge. UNT insurance requires that all students needing referral to other medical services receive that referral at the Student Health Center. Additional information will be provided during Orientation.
