EducationUSA Pre-Departure Orientations

All EducationUSA Advising Centers offer Pre-Departure Orientation programs in June and July for students who have been admitted to undergraduate and graduate programs in the United States. Contact your local EducationUSA Advising Center (contact information is available at www.educationusa.state.gov) to make sure you don't miss your orientation. Students report that attending pre-departure orientations in their home countries helps them better prepare and adjust to their new lives in the United States and gives them the opportunity to network with fellow students.

Pre-departure orientations offered by local advising centers may include some or all of the follow topics:

  • Packing for an extended stay
  • Making travel arrangements
  • Applying for the Visa interview
  • English in America
  • Money management
  • The American classroom
  • Cultural Adjustments and Culture Shock
  • Health and immunizations
  • Immigration matters
  • Many other topics
