Welcome to the IELI Tour

IELI General :: IELI Tour 1All IELI classrooms are in Kendall Hall. It is one of the oldest buildings on the UNT campus. Kendall Hall was originally a dormitory, and was converted into offices for International Studies and Programs and classrooms and computer lab for the IELI. The room size is perfect for a small class of about 12 students.

Pretend you are a new IELI student. It is your first week at IELI at UNT in Denton, Texas. You are ready to learn English!

Let's go inside...

First, you see the International Welcome Center. It is a big, open room with large windows and comfortable seats for visiting with other students. The director, Olga Grieco, usually has a pot of tea ready for students who come in.

Let's go upstairs to the 2nd floor, room 234.

IELI students come here to talk to Pilar Balabuch, the IELI counselor. She helps students who have questions about housing, landlords, car insurance, roommate problems, and generally about living in Denton. Pilar plans IELI orientations, social excursions, special events, talent shows, and parties for IELI students.

The main IELI office is across the hall from Pilar's office. You will go to this office when you register as a new student. After classes begin, you will see many students hurrying in this hall. It is important to get to class on time!

You are now experiencing many new things. The IELI welcomes you and will help you feel comfortable in your new home.

IELI General :: PizzaHave you ever eaten pizza? Many students eat pizza because it is easy to get and it's delicious. Many pizza restaurants in Denton deliver pizza to the UNT residence halls. You can taste many varieties of pizza at the IELI Welcome Party.

IELI General :: Longhorn Cattle
You may see a large herd of longhorn cattle grazing in a grassy field near UNT.
IELI General :: Horse Herd If you travel in the country outside of Denton, you may see many horses on large ranches.
