Your passport must remain valid at all times while in the U.S.

If you are traveling out of the U.S. and re-entering the U.S., the passport must be valid 6 months in advance.

Canadian citizens do not need to show a passport when entering the U.S. from the Western Hemisphere.  They do need to show a passport when entering from outside the Western Hemisphere.
