Full-Time Enrollment

• To maintain F-1 and J-1 student status, international students must be enrolled in a full course of study each fall and spring semester. Summer enrollment is optional unless it is your first term.
• For undergraduates full-time enrollment is considered to be 12 credits.
• Graduate students are required to be enrolled for 9 credits.
  
• Dissertators and some others are considered full-time if enrolled for 3 credits. See letter from the graduate school. To notify International Advising of your full time equivalency, use the UNT Graduate Student Full Time Equivalency form.

If there is a compelling reason that you feel you need to drop below these levels, please see the information and process on the Exemption from Full Time Enrollment Requirement form.

You must obtain permission before you register or drop below immigration required levels.

A student who is registered for less than full-time, and does not have authorization, is considered out of status by immigration regulation.
